Antique German hair receiver
You don't see these every day, but there are still a few around. This is a German-made hair receiver, early 1900s. They were used for women to put their hair in after brushing it, so it could be used in tiny pillows (used for pin cushions) or into a hairnet to make a ratt, a ball of hair that could add height or fullness to one’s hairdo. While some say the hair was used in crafts or made into mourning bracelets or necklaces, hair needed for those projects had to be straight , long strands, not broken pieces.
